1. FC Köln wins 2:1 against SpVgg Greuther Fürth
1. FC Köln has won the top match of the 2nd Bundesliga against SpVgg Greuther Fürth. In front of 49,000 spectators, the Rhinelanders won 2:1 (1:0) on Friday evening and thus secured top position in the table.
Anthony Modeste scored the winning goal for Köln in the 80th minute by converting a penalty kick. Linton Maina had previously put FC in the lead in the 22nd minute, but Havard Nielsen equalized for Fürth in the 54th minute.
Cologne takes the lead
Köln controlled the game from the start and had more of the game. The first good chance had Linton Maina, but his shot was blocked (13th). Just a few minutes later, Maina made it better: After a corner kick, he reacted quickly and pushed the ball into the net from the edge of the box (22nd).
Fürth hardly got into the game offensively, and FC Köln should have increased their lead before the break. But Mark Uth (25th) and Ondrej Duda (31st) failed to take their chances.
FC is negligent
Nothing changed in the second half. Köln remained the more active team and had their chances.
But then the Rhinelanders suddenly neglected their defensive duties. Nielsen took advantage of this in the 54th minute: The Fürth striker headed the ball into the net after a corner (54th).
Cologne increases again
Köln now had to act, but Fürsten gave up fewer chances. And when there was something going on in front of Fürth's goal, keeper Andreas Linde was there.
But the Cologne team kept increasing the pressure and was rewarded in the 80th minute: After a foul in the penalty area, Modeste converted the penalty kick and secured the home win for FC.
