Border-Gavaskar Trophy: Australia announce coaching staff for clash against India after Perth Test, former captain appointed head coach
Cricket Australia (CA) announced the coaching staff for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India on 26 December after the Perth Test.
Andrew McDonald has been appointed as the interim head coach, replacing Justin Langer.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is a Test cricket series between India and Australia, played for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy since 1996–97. The trophy is named after former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar and former Australian captain Allan Border.
The first Test of the series will be played at the Adelaide Oval from 17 to 21 December, with the second Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground from 26 to 30 December. The third Test will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground from 7 to 11 January, with the fourth and final Test at the Gabba from 15 to 19 January.
Australia will be looking to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which they won 2-1 in India in 2018-19. India will be looking to win the series for the first time in Australia since 2003-04.
The coaching staff for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be led by interim head coach Andrew McDonald. McDonald has been the assistant coach of the Australian cricket team since 2019 and has previously coached the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League.
McDonald will be joined by batting coach Michael Di Venuto, bowling coach David Saker, and fielding coach Brad Haddin. Di Venuto has been the batting coach of the Australian cricket team since 2018, while Saker has been the bowling coach since 2016. Haddin has been the fielding coach of the Australian cricket team since 2014.
The coaching staff will be looking to help Australia retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Australia will be confident of their chances, having won the last two series against India. However, India will be a tough opponent, especially in their own conditions.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is one of the most prestigious Test cricket series in the world. It is a great opportunity for both Australia and India to test themselves against each other.
