Cantaloupe Recall Alert: Ohio Market Cantaloupes Risk Salmonella
What's Happening?
Ohio authorities have issued a recall for cantaloupes sold at various retail locations due to potential salmonella contamination. Consumers who purchased cantaloupes from these retailers are urged to discard them immediately and not consume them.
Affected Products and Locations
The recall affects cantaloupes sold at the following locations:
- Giant Eagle
- Kroger
- Meijer
- Walmart
The affected cantaloupes were distributed between August 15th and September 10th, and have the following PLU codes:
- 4225
- 4226
Health Risks
Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause serious illness, including:
- Diarrhea
- Fever
- Abdominal cramps
- Nausea
- Vomiting
In severe cases, salmonella can lead to more serious health complications, such as:
- Sepsis
- Meningitis
- Organ failure
Infants, young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are at a higher risk of developing serious complications from salmonella.
What to Do
If you have purchased cantaloupes from the affected locations, please discard them immediately and do not consume them.
