Farewell to the elite
In the last round of the Ukrainian Football Championship 2022/23, “Dnipro-1” lost to “Vorskla” at home. Thus, the Dnipro team finished 11th in the tournament, which means that next season “Dnipro-1” will play in the Ukrainian First League.
First, “Dnipro-1” finished the season in the UPL, losing to Vorskla 1:2 at home. The only goal for the Dnipro team was scored by Alexander Pikhalyonok. This victory allowed the Poltava team to secure a place in the top six and participate in the European Cups. The match was attended by 1,060 spectators, who thanked the team for the season with applause.
Throughout the season, the team from Dnipro showed an unstable game. In 13 matches played at the Dnipro-Arena in the UPL, Oleksandr Kucher's team managed to win only 5 victories. The Dnipro team ended the season with a goal difference of 15-26.
Season Results
The current season for Dnipro-1 cannot be considered successful. The team failed to qualify for the European Cups, finishing 11th in the championship. In the Ukrainian Cup, “Dnipro-1” reached the 1/4 finals, where it lost to Vorskla.
In the new season, “Dnipro-1” will return to the Ukrainian First League, where it will try to return to the elite as soon as possible. The main task of “Dnipro-1” next season will be to return to the Ukrainian Premier League.
The departure of “Dnipro-1” from the Ukrainian Premier League can be regarded as a failure of the team's management. However, the departure of Dnipro-1 from the Ukrainian Premier League is a big loss for Ukrainian football.
