Rashid Temrezov Elected as Head of Karachay-Cherkessia
On Wednesday, the parliament of the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic in Russia elected Rashid Temrezov as the new head of the republic.
Temrezov, who previously served as the republic's prime minister, received 27 out of 34 votes in the parliament.
Background of Rashid Temrezov
Rashid Borisovich Temrezov was born on March 15, 1976, in the village of Uchkulan, Karachay-Cherkessia.
In 2000, he graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Karachay-Cherkessia State University.
From 2002 to 2011, he held various positions in the Karachay-Cherkessia government, including head of the Department of Legal Support and head of the Department for Interethnic Relations and Religious Affairs.
Political Career
In 2011, Temrezov was elected to the Parliament of the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic, where he served as chairman of the Committee on Legislation, Legality, and Local Self-Government.
In 2018, he was appointed as Prime Minister of the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic by the then-head of the republic, Rashid Temrezov.
On February 1, 2023, Temrezov was elected as the new head of the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic, following the resignation of Rashid Temrezov.

Temrezov has stated that his priorities as head of Karachay-Cherkessia include improving the republic's economy, attracting investment, and developing tourism.
