Kusal Perera, Mohamed Shiraz return for New Zealand ODIs
Sri Lanka Cricket announced the return of two experienced players, Kusal Perera and Mohamed Shiraz, for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand.
Perera, who has 10 ODI centuries to his name, will captain the side in the absence of the injured Dasun Shanaka. He was rested for the recent ODI series against India and will be eager to make a mark on his return.
Shiraz, who is known for his consistent bowling performances, has been in impressive form for Sri Lanka A recently. He was the leading wicket-taker in the recent A series against Bangladesh A and will be looking to make an impact at the international level.
The return of Perera and Shiraz will undoubtedly bolster the Sri Lankan team, which is seeking to build momentum ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Other notable inclusions in the squad are Charith Asalanka and Nuwanidu Fernando. Asalanka has been in fine form for Sri Lanka in recent months and will be looking to continue his good run. Fernando, a left-arm fast bowler, has impressed at the domestic level and will be hoping to make his international debut in the series.
The ODI series against New Zealand will be a tough test for Sri Lanka, but the return of experienced players like Perera and Shiraz will give them confidence.
The series will be played at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch and the University Oval in Dunedin. The first ODI will be played on March 25, followed by the second ODI on March 28 and the third ODI on March 31.
