Michael Chandler responds to Arman Tsarukyan
"I'm not going to sit here and let some kid disrespect me"
Michael Chandler has responded to Arman Tsarukyan's recent callout, saying that he's "not going to sit here and let some kid disrespect me".
Tsarukyan, who is currently ranked #11 in the UFC's lightweight division, called out Chandler after his win over Joel Alvarez at UFC 278. Tsarukyan said that he believes he's the "best wrestler in the division" and that he wants to fight Chandler to prove it.
Chandler, who is a former Bellator lightweight champion, is currently ranked #5 in the UFC's lightweight division. He's coming off a loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 281, but he's still one of the most dangerous fighters in the division.
In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Chandler said that he's not interested in fighting Tsarukyan. He said that he's focused on fighting the top contenders in the division, and that Tsarukyan is not one of them.
"I'm not going to sit here and let some kid disrespect me," Chandler said. "He's a good wrestler, but he's not on my level. I'm not going to waste my time fighting him."
It's unclear if Chandler's comments will deter Tsarukyan from continuing to call him out. Tsarukyan is a rising star in the UFC, and he's likely to continue to climb the rankings in the coming years. If he does, it's possible that he'll eventually get his wish and fight Chandler.
Chandler's next fight
Chandler is expected to return to the octagon later this year. He's currently in talks to fight Tony Ferguson at UFC 286 on March 18.
Ferguson is a former UFC interim lightweight champion. He's coming off a loss to Nate Diaz at UFC 279, but he's still a dangerous opponent. Chandler vs. Ferguson is expected to be a competitive fight, and it could have major implications for the lightweight division.
