Nicholls Men's Hoops Set for Opener at New Mexico

The Nicholls State University men's basketball team will open its 2022-23 season on Monday, Nov. 7 at the University of New Mexico. The Colonels and Lobos will tip off at 8 p.m. CT inside The Pit in Albuquerque, N.M.
Nicholls is coming off a 17-14 season in 2021-22, including a 10-8 mark in the Southland Conference. The Colonels return three starters from last year's team, including senior guard Ty Gordon and senior forward Jeremiah Buford. Gordon averaged 13.9 points per game last season, while Buford averaged 10.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
New Mexico finished 13-19 overall and 5-13 in the Mountain West Conference last season. The Lobos return two starters from last year's team, including senior guard Jaelen House and junior forward Morris Udeze. House averaged 14.3 points per game last season, while Udeze averaged 11.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
The Colonels and Lobos have met just once before, with New Mexico winning 84-53 in Albuquerque in 2019.
