Powell Steps Up in George's Absence
Norman Powell stepped up in the absence of Paul George, scoring 31 points and grabbing 12 rebounds as the Los Angeles Clippers held off the Sacramento Kings 107-98 on Sunday night.
Powell, who started in place of George (right knee soreness), shot 12-of-23 from the field and made all seven of his free-throw attempts. He also added two assists and a steal in 38 minutes of action.
The Clippers led by just two points with three minutes remaining in the game, but Powell made a pair of free throws and Kawhi Leonard hit a jumper to give Los Angeles a six-point lead.
The Kings cut the deficit to two points with 1:12 remaining, but Powell made another pair of free throws to seal the win.
Clippers Improve to 18-19, Kings Fall to 18-18
The win improved the Clippers' record to 18-19, while the Kings fell to 18-18.
Leonard added 26 points, seven rebounds, and three assists for the Clippers, while Marcus Morris Sr. scored 17 points and Ivica Zubac had 12 points and 14 rebounds.
De'Aaron Fox led the Kings with 27 points, while Domantas Sabonis added 22 points and 14 rebounds. Kevin Huerter scored 17 points and Keegan Murray had 15 points.
The Clippers will host the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night, while the Kings will host the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night.
