PCB Turns Down India's Demand to Host Champions Trophy
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi Rejects Proposal
Sethi Warns of Potential Diplomatic Fallout
In a recent interview, PCB Chairman Najam Sethi revealed that Pakistan will not accept India's request to host the Champions Trophy in 2025.
Sethi justified the decision by citing security concerns and diplomatic tensions between the two countries. He also expressed apprehensions about the safety of Pakistani players and officials in India.
Sethi stated that the PCB has conveyed its decision to the International Cricket Council (ICC) and emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to fulfilling its hosting obligations for significant ICC events.
Diplomatic Fallout Warnings
Sethi warned of potential diplomatic repercussions if India insists on hosting the Champions Trophy without Pakistan's participation.
He emphasized that Pakistan has a strong cricketing culture and a large fan base worldwide. Depriving Pakistani fans of the opportunity to witness their team compete in major tournaments could sour relations between the two countries.
Sethi also expressed concern about the impact on bilateral cricketing ties if India were to proceed with its plans.
ICC's Response
The ICC has yet to comment officially on Pakistan's decision not to participate in the Champions Trophy if India hosts the event.
However, sources within the ICC have indicated that the governing body is exploring alternative hosting options to ensure that all member nations have an opportunity to compete in the tournament.
The ICC is expected to make a final decision on the hosting rights for the Champions Trophy in the coming months.
