Pittsburgh Defeats Washington, Malkin Scores Game-Winner
Sidney Crosby Extends Point Streak to 12 Games
The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Washington Capitals 4-3 in overtime on Tuesday night at PPG Paints Arena. Evgeni Malkin scored the game-winning goal 3:08 into the extra period, giving the Penguins their fourth straight win.
Penguins Overcome Slow Start
The Penguins fell behind 2-0 in the first period, but they rallied to tie the game in the second period on goals by Bryan Rust and Kris Letang. The Capitals regained the lead in the third period, but Jake Guentzel tied the game again with just over two minutes remaining in regulation.
Malkin's Heroics in Overtime
In overtime, Malkin took a pass from Crosby and skated into the Capitals zone. He deked around Capitals defenseman John Carlson and fired a shot past goaltender Ilya Samsonov for the game-winning goal.
Crosby Extends Point Streak
Crosby assisted on both of the Penguins' goals in the third period, extending his point streak to 12 games. He now has 19 points (9 goals, 10 assists) during that span.
Capitals' Struggles Continue
The Capitals have now lost four of their last five games. They are currently in fourth place in the Metropolitan Division, three points behind the Penguins.
