Subtropical Depression Six forms in Gulf

A subtropical depression has formed in the southeastern Gulf of Mexico.

The depression was located about 370 miles south-southwest of Fort Myers, Florida. It has maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.

The depression is moving north-northwest at 7 mph. A tropical storm watch is in effect for the coast of Mexico from Tulum to Punta Herrero.

The National Hurricane Center says the depression is expected to become a tropical storm later tonight or early Sunday.

Potential impacts

Heavy rainfall is possible over portions of southeastern Mexico through Sunday night. The heaviest rainfall is expected over the northern Yucatan Peninsula and eastern Quintana Roo, where 4 to 8 inches of rain could fall.

The depression could also bring gusty winds and rough seas to the coast of southeastern Mexico.

A tropical storm watch is in effect for the coast of Mexico from Tulum to Punta Herrero.
