Rayo Vallecano Coach Perez Denies James Exit Talk Ahead of Las Palmas Clash

Madrid-based La Liga club, Rayo Vallecana, kicks off their 2023 campaign with a home match against Las Palmas.

Rayo Vallecano coach Andoni Iraola has denied speculation that Colombian playmaker James Rodriguez will leave the club during the January transfer window.

James, 31, has been linked with a move away from Vallecas in recent weeks, with several clubs reportedly interested in signing the former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich star. However, Iraola believes Rodriguez is focused on helping Rayo Vallecano achieve success in the second half of the season.

"James is a very important player for us," Iraola said at a press conference on Friday. "He's a player with a lot of quality and experience, and he's also a great team player. We're delighted to have him, and we're not interested in selling him in January."

Rodriguez, who joined Rayo Vallecano on a free transfer in the summer of 2022, has been in impressive form for the club this season, scoring three goals and providing five assists in 14 La Liga appearances.

His performances have helped Vallecano climb to 10th place in the table, and Iraola is confident that the Colombian can continue to play a vital role for the team in the coming months.

"James is a player who can make a difference for us," Iraola said. "He's a player who can create chances for others, and he can also score goals himself. He's a very important player for us, and we're counting on him to help us achieve our goals this season."

Rayo Vallecano will be looking to build on a credible start to the season when they face Las Palmas on Sunday. The match kicks off at 14:00 CET.
