Russia Ukraine: US announces new $2.5bn weapons package for Ukraine
US president Joe Biden has announced a new $2.5bn (£2bn) weapons package for Ukraine, including Stryker armoured vehicles, air defence systems and ammunition.
The package, which is part of a broader $45bn (£37bn) aid package for Ukraine approved by Congress in December, includes:
- 90 Stryker armoured personnel carriers
- 59 Bradley fighting vehicles
- 350 Humvees
- 18 self-propelled 155mm howitzers
- 100,000 rounds of 155mm artillery ammunition
- 44,000 rounds of 120mm mortar ammunition
- 20,000 rounds of 25mm ammunition
- 120 60mm mortar systems
- 20 120mm mortars
- 10 105mm howitzers
- 10 70mm rockets
- 2,000 anti-tank missiles
- 500 Javelin anti-tank missiles
- 300 Switchblade drones
- 100 MaxxPro mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles
- 13,000 anti-tank rounds
- 12,000 155mm artillery rounds
- 6,000 120mm mortar rounds
- 5,000 25mm rounds
- 3,000 anti-tank missiles
- 2,000 Javelin anti-tank missiles
- 1,000 Switchblade drones
- 500 MaxxPro mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles
- 10,000 anti-tank rounds
- 8,000 155mm artillery rounds
- 4,000 120mm mortar rounds
- 3,000 25mm rounds
- 2,000 anti-tank missiles

The package also includes funding for training, maintenance and sustainment of Ukrainian forces.
The new weapons package brings the total amount of US military aid to Ukraine to more than $27bn since the start of the war.
The US has been providing Ukraine with a range of weapons, including Javelin anti-tank missiles, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, and High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS).
The US has also been training Ukrainian forces on how to use the weapons and providing them with logistical support.
The new weapons package is part of a broader effort by the US and its allies to help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression.
The US has also imposed sanctions on Russia and provided financial aid to Ukraine.
The US and its allies have also coordinated efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
