Tanner Morgan, Mohamed Ibrahim Lead Minnesota Over Rutgers
Golden Gophers roll to 4-0 record, while Scarlet Knights fall to 1-3
Quarterback Tanner Morgan and running back Mohamed Ibrahim led the Minnesota Golden Gophers to a 31-0 victory over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Saturday, October 1st. With the win, Minnesota improved to 4-0 on the season, while Rutgers fell to 1-3.
Morgan threw for 263 yards and two touchdowns, while Ibrahim rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown.
The Golden Gophers scored first on a 3-yard touchdown pass from Morgan to wide receiver Daniel Jackson in the first quarter. They added to their lead with a 22-yard field goal by Matthew Trickett in the second quarter.
Ibrahim scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Morgan threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford in the fourth quarter.
The Scarlet Knights were unable to get anything going offensively, as they were held to just 182 total yards of offense. Quarterback Gavin Wimsatt was held to just 133 yards passing, and running back Kyle Monangai was held to just 43 yards rushing.
The Golden Gophers defense was outstanding, as they held the Scarlet Knights to just 3.5 yards per play.
With the win, the Golden Gophers improved to 4-0 on the season, and they will face the Purdue Boilermakers in their next game on October 8th. The Scarlet Knights, meanwhile, fell to 1-3 on the season, and they will face the Iowa Hawkeyes in their next game on October 8th.
