The Santa Barbara High football team's season came to an end Friday night with a 35-14 loss to El Modena in the semifinals of the CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs.

The Vanguards (10-3) led 14-7 at halftime, but the Vanguards were shut out in the second half as El Modena's defense clamped down.

El Modena (12-1) will face Corona del Mar in the Division 3 championship game next week.

Santa Barbara's offense struggled to get anything going in the second half. The Vanguards managed just 50 yards of offense in the third and fourth quarters combined.

El Modena's defense was led by linebacker Jacob Godfrey, who had two sacks and forced a fumble.

The Vanguards' defense played well in the first half, but they couldn't keep up with El Modena's offense in the second half.

El Modena quarterback David Machuca threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns.

Vanguards quarterback J.T. Stone threw for 124 yards and a touchdown.

Santa Barbara's leading rusher was running back Keyvaun Hall, who ran for 67 yards on 12 carries.

El Modena's leading rusher was running back Isaiah Davis, who ran for 110 yards on 20 carries.
