Justice Department Steps Up Pressure on Iran to Hand Over Iranian-American Dual Citizen Accused of Violating US Sanctions

The US Justice Department has intensified pressure on Iran to extradite an Iranian-American citizen who is wanted in the US for violating US sanctions, according to several people familiar with the matter.

The Justice Department has been working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to secure the extradition of Siamak Namazi, a businessman who was arrested in Iran in 2015 and sentenced to 10 years in prison on charges of espionage and collaboration with the US government.

The US has repeatedly denied the charges against Namazi, calling them "baseless" and "politically motivated."
