NCCU MBB Opens 2024-25 Season at George Mason on Monday Before Friday’s Home Opener
Eagles to Tip Off Season in Fairfax, Virginia
The North Carolina Central University men’s basketball team will open its 2024-25 season on Monday, Nov. 11, at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
The Eagles will then return home to host their home opener on Friday, Nov. 15, against the University of North Carolina at Pembroke at McDougald-McLendon Arena.
NCCU Looking to Build on Last Season’s Success
NCCU is coming off a 2023-24 season in which it finished 19-12 overall and 12-4 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). The Eagles advanced to the championship game of the MEAC Tournament before falling to Norfolk State University.
NCCU returns three starters from last season’s team, including senior guard Justin Wright, who was named to the All-MEAC Second Team.
The Eagles also welcome a talented recruiting class that includes four-star forward Simeon Wilcher, who is considered one of the top prospects in the country.
George Mason a Tough Opening Test
George Mason is a perennial contender in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Patriots finished 17-15 overall and 8-10 in the A-10 last season.
George Mason is led by senior guard Josh Oduro, who was named to the All-A-10 Second Team last season.
The Patriots also return a talented frontcourt led by senior forward Davonte Gardner and junior forward AJ Wilson.
NCCU Hoping for Fast Start
NCCU is hoping to get off to a fast start this season and build on the success of last season.
The Eagles have a challenging non-conference schedule that includes games against George Mason, the University of Maryland, and the University of North Carolina.
NCCU is also looking to make a deep run in the MEAC Tournament this season and earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
