Ronaldo’s ‘Healthy Breakfast’ Slammed By Doctor: ‘Infamously Associated With Liver Injury’
Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent Instagram post, in which he promoted a breakfast of Herbalife products, has been criticized by a doctor as being “irresponsible” and “dangerous”.
In the post, Ronaldo, who has 400 million followers, wrote: “Good morning! I’m starting my day with a healthy breakfast, including my Herbalife products. This is how I prepare my body for the challenges of the day ahead.”
However, Dr. David C. Nieman, a professor of public health at Appalachian State University, said that Ronaldo’s post was “irresponsible” and “dangerous”.
“Herbalife is a pyramid scheme that sells products that are infamously associated with liver injury,” Dr. Nieman said. “Ronaldo is a role model for millions of people, and he should not be promoting such dangerous products.”
Herbalife has been the subject of numerous lawsuits and investigations over the years, and has been accused of making false and misleading claims about its products.
In 2016, the company settled a class-action lawsuit by paying $200 million to customers who claimed they were misled about the company’s business model and the effectiveness of its products.
In 2019, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) opened an investigation into Herbalife, and the company is currently under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Dr. Nieman said that Ronaldo’s post is particularly concerning because it comes at a time when many people are looking for ways to improve their health and well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic.
